Send a Sailor this Happy Birthday card!

When I was designing this card, I thought it would be ideal to Send to a Sailor (or a wannabe sailor!). It is a bit different – the centre flap lifts up for you to write your greeting! It’s full of masculine colours, Well Suited Designer Series Paper (#154562) and even stands up so it can have that special spot on your mantel!

Let’s start with the cutting…

The smaller strips of DSP add great colour to the design. The largest size of DSP (5-1/4″ x 2-1/2″) is used on this card front. The 2 smaller strips along the sides are cut at 5-1/4″ x 3/4″ so, once again, you will be able to use your scraps! It’s all about getting the most out of your purchase!

A few more layers…

To get this unique card base, cut Night of Navy Cardstock (#100867) @ 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ – no folding on this piece. For the next step, I cut 2 pieces of Well Suited Designer Series Paper (#154562) @ 5-1/4″ x 3/4″. They were glued to each side of the cardstock leaving the usual 1/8″ along the outside edges.

Unique centre fold…

Cut another piece of Night of Navy Cardstock @ 11″ x 2-3/4″, score & fold @ 5-1/2″. This will form the centre section that opens up for the greeting. Now you will need to cut another piece of Well Suited Designer Series Paper (#154562) @ 5-1/4″ x 2-1/2″ to attach to the front of the scored cardstock. But, before you attach it, wrap a length of Well Suited Twine Combo Pack (#154566) around it near the top. I choose a coordinating DSP for this piece to add some variety.

Ready for the greeting…

For the greeting layer, cut a piece, approx 3-1/4″ x 2″, of Night of Navy Cardstock with the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine and the Sweetly Stitched Dies (#151690). Cut a piece of Basic White Cardstock (#159276) @ 2-3/4″ x 1-5/8″. Use Night of Navy Classic Ink (#147110) and stamps from Sailing Home Stamp Set (#149457) and Peaceful Moments Stamp Set (#151595) to create the focal point.

Embellish with a rope…

For the “rope” embellishment, use the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the rope die from Smooth Sailing Dies (#149576) and a scrap of Well Suited Designer Series Paper (#154562).

Don’t forget the inside…

Cut a piece of Basic White Cardstock (#159276) @ 5-1/4″ x 2-1/2″ to attach to the inside where you’ll write your greeting. You can include a stamped image if desired.

Stamp a greeting on the inside for extra description.
